DEpression and Anxiety Training Masterclass

This is an updated workshop on the neurolinguistic perspective of anxiety and depression in the light of new developments in the fields of Metaphors of Movement (MoM) and Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT).  Previous attendance is not necessary.

One of the main areas of discussion will be about how and why our current understanding of depression and anxiety are so wrong. The most commonly used metaphor for depression is the “chemical imbalance” metaphor which usually serves only to invalidate the person’s suffering and depressive experience. Anxiety is often either downgraded psychologically to “worrying too much” or upgraded medically to “panic disorder”. As clinicians, we need to be better than this.

Additional subjects covered:

  • Metaphors of depression and what this can reveal to the therapist with regards to designing interventions effectively.
  • The relationship between NLP’s Modal Operators, time predication and IEMT’s “Three Pillars of Depression.”
  • The neurology of anxiety and depression and how an understanding of this can lead to practical interventions.
  • A better understanding of the experience of depression using metaphor.

This will be a highly practical workshop with lots of exercises in order to explore the material presented. Attendance is suitable for coaches, therapists and those working within the mental health professions. Depression and anxiety sufferers who wish to learn more about treatment options are most welcome to attend. Participation in the exercises is entirely optional and you can either join a group to observe, get coffee or whatever during these times.
